H. J. Lehman built the first of these for Henry Roltare, probably in the first years of the twentieth century. Lehman went on to build the apparatus for the Hooker Card Rise, from 1914-1918. See Jim Steinmeyer's article in Genii, Vol. 71 No. 4, Apr. 2008, p. 54.
