Gene Pronk published this trick in Linking Ring, Vol. 45 No. 2, Feb. 1965, p. 77. His method is the usual force and corner switch. Assistant pulls cord on lamp when pistol is fired; bulb is removed and broken in hat, which has matching duplicate hidden inside.
