Years before there was a Mismade Bill, there was a Mismade Card, although the card jumble did not catch the imaginations of magicians in the way the same idea with a bill later did. The idea was suggested by Friedrich W. Conradi-Horster in the Sep. 1905 issue of Der Zauberspiegel, Vol. 5 No. 11, p. 164, under the amusing title of “Der unaufmerksame Künstler” (The Inattentive Artist). Two selected cards are cut in half, half of each is burnt and the ashes shot with a pistol at a pane of glass, on which the half cards are expected to be restored. However, a single card appears, with its face being one half of each card. The magician proceeds to correct matters.
