Overhand Shuffle of Stack by Spectator

The strategy of letting a spectator overhand shuffle a stacked deck in the hope that enough of the set-up remains intact to make use of it was published by Ellis Stanyon in Stanyon's Magic, Vol. 13 No. 10, July 1913, p. 78: “The Genuine Shuffle as Effecting the Above and Other Arranged Packs”.

It was later rediscovered and popularized by Theodore Annemann, see J. G. Thompson's commentary for “Basic Move 3” in The Pallbearers Review, Vol. 3 No. 8, June 1968, p. 183.
