This presentational gambit appeared in two tricks in R.P.'s Ein Spiel Karten, 1853, p. 54 & 59 of the Pieper translation, as “Continuation of the Preceding” and “The Card Factory,” respectively. The plot was popularized by Johann Hofzinser, appearing in several handling variants in Kartenkünste, 1910, p. 89, 93, & 97 of the Sharpe translation.
