Gianfranco Preverino argues persuasively, from details of its application, that a palming technique vaguely described in L'Antidote ou le Contrepoison des Chevaliers d'Industrie (1768, p. 51; p. 111 of the Pieper English translation), must be essentially the same palming grip independently developed by Ishida Tenkai, which became widely known as the Tenaki palm in the last half of the twentieth century; see The Dai Vernon Book of Magic, Lewis Ganson, 1957, p. 73.
