Although frequently attributed to Dai Vernon, this type of break, in which nearly the full length of a finger is inserted between packets gripped by the hand at one side, was first described in print by Charles Jordan in his Thirty Card Mysteries, 1920, p. 62, in the trick titled “Our Friends, the Aces”.
