According to Theodore Annemann, in The Jinx, No. 7, Apr. 1935, n.p.: “Mr. Al Baker himself quoted something when he gave me the line 'The wicked flee when none pursue.'” Baker was quoting Proverbs 28:1: “The wicked man flees though no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
