 This was apparently the invention of R. N. Menge, U. F. Grant's business partner in 1945, when the trick was first marketed by Grant. Grant originally titled it "Menge's Climax Egg Bag". However, Grant may have had a hand in its invention, since he had made a chicken-shaped egg bag in 1931 for Eddie Welch. Ref.
