The standard tunnel-fold method first appeared in print in Jean Hugard's second edition of Close-up Magic for the Night Club Magician, 1938, p. 17. (The trick was not included in the 1934 first edition.) Hugard did not identify the originator. However, in The Sphinx, Vol. 39 No. 12, Feb. 1939, Seymour Davis stepped forward, stating it was “one of my older effects”; see “The Meteoric Card and Phantom Hanky”, p. 317.
