The idea of producing a selection (duplicate card) from a cigar (prepared) appears in Ein Spiel Karten by R. P., 1853, p. 39 of the Pieper translation, titled “The Double Exchange, or The Incomprehensible Mystery”. This is a clear precursor to Card in Cigarette.
