The basic mechanics for this sleight are described by Erdnase in the context of a tabled handling (pp. 103-4). Charles Jordan published an in-the-hands handling in “The Aces Again” from Four Full Hands of Down to the Minute Magical Effects (1922), using a side jog instead of a break. Arthur Buckley later published it in Card Control (1946, “Buckley's Method of Double Cutting Card to the Top of the Pack”), the same year that Vernon's Cutting the Aces installment of Stars of Magic appeared. Vernon popularized the sleight.
