Almost 140 years after the Eight Kings mnemonic appeared in print, John Mulholland suggested a related deck arrangement founded on a nonsense phrase. He called the stack “The Hungry Jackass”. The mnemonic phrase runs: Jackass ate live tree King intends to fix several for benign Queen.“ Mulholland first published his Hungry Jackass stack in The Art of Illusion, 1944, p. 45.
