The combination of the plot of Dai Vernon's “The Travelers” with a four-of-a-kind transposition was introduced by Jerry Sadowitz as “The More Things Change”. Four cards of one value placed in different pockets transpose one by one with a second four-of-a-kind held in the hands. Sadowitz published the effect in Sadowitz and Peter Duffie's Alternative Card Magic, 1982, p. 24.
The effect of a pocketed quartet transposing with one in the hands one by one was also the plot of Hugard and Braue's “Two Way Traffic” in their Tricks and Sleights, 1943, p. 3. The details of handling and effect differ a lot, though, as the four-of-a-kind is in a single pocket and the second one in the deck.
